The Government has introduced rebate schemes to encourage and assist people to purchase solar for their homes and businesses. Two rebate schemes are currently in operation:
- Small Technology Certificates (STCs) – for residential and smaller system sizes under 100kW.
- Large Scale Generation Certificates (LGC) – for businesses and larger system sizes over 100kW.
The main difference between the two schemes is how the Government delivers the rebate. STCs receive an upfront payment providing a discount at the time of purchase and the LGCs receive ongoing savings.
Small Technology Certificates (STC)
The upfront savings provided through STCs vary depending on the size of the installed solar system and how much energy it will create. Solar system energy output is influenced by a number of factors, including system size, pitch, orientation and shading. iSelectSolar independent experts will be able to assist you in establishing the STC discount available for your intended home or business installation, so you’ll know how much you can save.
Be aware that all companies advertising installation prices in the media have already taken this savings in account within their advertised price. Approaching solar installation companies on your own is unlikely to deliver you significant savings, unless you are sacrificing on quality – a strategy not recommended by iSelectSolar.
Once iSelectSolar has assisted you in selecting a reputable company to install your solar system, they will complete all the necessary paperwork to apply for your STC rebate for you – all you will need to do is sign.
Large-Scale Generation Certificates (LGC)
To assist Australia in hitting the Government’s 20% Renewables target by the year 2020, the LGC scheme was introduced to provide ongoing financial incentive for businesses to convert to solar power. IKEA’s Canberra store covered their warehouse’s substantial roof area with solar panels when it was built in 2015. The store boasts total self sufficiency in terms of their electricity needs. The value proposition of such installations is increasing as the cost of quality solar panels continues to drop.
